When does your story get happy? I'm working on a global ethical framework - not rules, but instead the FRAMEWORK for a global solution. My pitch is sparking some interest. We'll see if it gets traction and funding.
I’m not at all sure that this story ever gets happy. It’s not so much a study of happy or sad. It’s a take on the sheer weirdness of this moment. Sometimes we are so numb that we fail to register just how intensely weird this actually is. We are building a superhuman intelligence. Bit by bit.
Current AI development echoes at internet speed the industrial revolution; where it was assumed that the environment is infinite and local pollution will not add up to global effects. It will get happy for the few who learn to survive as they go off-grid (forests, walled communities, islands, Mars). It may get happy for the pockets of people who learn to master and bound AI's effects on their minds and lives; effectively beating it down when it oversteps. It will just be naturally happy who grow up under AI (a la Wall-e).
